TIME. Our greatest commodity. Our biggest decision each day; what we will do with our time. How do we spend it well, enjoy it well. I am constantly fighting against time. There is NEVER enough time in a day for the to do list. The wants and the needs. Our time is so precious. It is such a gift and I long to use my days well. Often we don’t get to choose how we spend our time because we have to work. Sometimes we are blessed and we get to choose where we work and sometimes we don’t, we just need to put food on the table. I am convinced, as was Paul, that whatever work you are doing you can find joy. “ Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters, since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving.” – Colossians 3:23-24. Our joy is in the Lord and so therefore all of our work can be joyful because we are working for the Lord. Sometimes we just have to buckle down and learn to love the things we don’t want to do each day. Finding joy in these moments is the best use of our time. Spending our time loving what we are doing is the best way to live. And our joy flows over onto those around us.
We only have so many precious moments in each day. As I get older, I find that filling these moments with people and serving has a much greater importance. Loving on your children, finding community, pouring into lives is so fulfilling. I feel like as Matt and I have grown up into our mid thirties we are focusing more on spending our time well. We want to use our life to advance the kindgom. To see God’s kingdom come to earth. We long to be intentional to live out God’s will for our life and chase the passions he has put on our heart. We are making priorities and letting other things go.
What passion, what dream has God put on your heart? I think he longs for you to spend your time running towards those dreams, fulfilling them. He holds you tight and gives you wings to fly. Now is the time. No more waiting. No more wasting. Just a passionate pursuit of all that God has for us.
Let’s use our time wisely today. Joyfully, lovingly, fervently investing in every second. Our loving God is waiting for us. Waiting for us to say yes to all that he has for us in every moment.
“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” -Jeremiah 29:11
