Living Intentionally-Making yourself small

Humble.  It means not proud or haughty, not arrogant or assertive, unpretentious.  It means always considering others better than ourselves and putting others before ourselves. (Phillipians 2:3).  God promises that he will give grace to the humble and oppose the proud.  He will bless our smallness and defeat our pride.  He is our king and all glory and honor always needs to be pointed back to our right hand man.

Back in August Matt and I got the incredible joy of traveling to Texas for a Legacy Collective party.  We went shopping and I picked up a bracelet from this little shop.  The bracelet has one word on it: HUMBLE.  I picked it up because I wanted the constant reminder to live humbly.  This was the first step in God showing me what that word really means because truly I had no clue.  He has taught me that humble is sometimes shutting up when you want to yell and scream in righteous anger.  It is admitting how wrong you are.  And how you messed up that situation.  Sometimes it might feel like you are getting walked all over and you will know in your soul whether you are supposed to be humble in that moment or stand up for yourself.  I think more often than not we are supposed to just let it go.  He has whispered to me that I am not always right.  That I need to listen and learn and really hear other people before I jump to anger or judgement.  God has taught me that my ways and opinions are super but that not everyone has to have them or do them.

Living small is also having your arms wide open to all of the experiences that God wants you to have. And they may not be your priority or on your “want to” list.  But when you say yes to all that he has, your joy and blessing is immeasurable.  Sometimes he calls you out of your current lifestyle to live in a way that looks funky to the rest of the world.  Trust in it and run.  Our creator is always right and always has your back.  Elevate others before yourself, don’t be concerned what other people think, love big.

Use what you have been given for good, use it to advance the kingdom, use it to put others before yourself.  This is my prayer everyday; Lord let us be humble today.  Let us put others before ourselves.  Help us to be small.  Help us to really truly learn what it is like to live humbly, to glorify your name.

In the same way, you who are younger, submit yourselves to your elders. All of you, clothe yourselves with humility toward one another, because, God opposes the proud but shows favor to the humble. – 1 Peter 5:5
